Principal Analyst, Offshore Rigs, S&P Global Commodity Insights
Yun Yun Teo is a Principal Analyst on Offshore Rigs (Asia-Pacific) at S&P Global Commodity Insights. As an offshore rig analyst, Yun Yun gathers data on and tracks the Asia-Pacific offshore rig market by speaking regularly to shipyards, rig contractors, offshore service providers, financials and oil & gas operators in the region and beyond.
She has been part of the Petrodata team that covers offshore assets since 2006 and is based in Singapore. So for over 15 years now, Yun Yun has been part of Petrodata's offshore rig team, collecting real-time updates on the current fleet of over 200 drilling jackups, semisubmersibles, drillships and tender-assist rigs in Asia and, in particular, Southeast Asia and the Far East. Over this period, she has weathered four offshore downturns with the industry. Aside from her desk job of keeping on top of rig moves and supporting customers with accurate market intelligence, she has also been invited to speak at industry seminars, contributed to magazines, given interviews on the rig market and shared insights on webinars for clients. It continues to be a dynamic journey as the story of the rig market unfolds in our current unprecedented times that pit Energy Transition against Energy Security.
Yun Yun began her career as a journalist after graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree from National University of Singapore in 1995. She spent over a decade at Singapore Press Holdings, starting as a reporter covering news ranging from education, entertainment, local politics to the economy. She later became a sub-editor and spent happy days copy tasting, editing and designing news pages and spreads, including some rowdy years on the sports desk, as well as a year with the sports section at The Scotsman in Edinburgh (despite which she still cannot figure out how cricket works). In her own time, she has also written a peer-reviewed article titled "Target Malacca Straits: Maritime Terrorism in Southeast Asia", that was published in the academic journal, Studies in Conflict & Terrorism.
